My Cooking Style

I'm not a big meat-eater. I'm definitely not vegetarian, because I could never give up bacon, or a good hamburger, but I generally don't eat a ton of meat. One of the reasons is that I eat from home a lot, and I'm not totally comfortable with cooking meat. This is one thing that I'm working on, so there will be meaty recipes from time-to-time, but generally I cook with lots of veggies!

I also cook almost exclusively with fresh produce - a lot of which I buy in the discounted section because it's cheaper, and almost always lasts long enough for me to use it.

I supplement my produce with canned beans (because I'm lazy) and canned tomatoes (unless it's the middle of tomato season and I can get the good stuff at my farmer's market). I try to shy away from frozen foods, but I always like to keep frozen corn & peas on hand to jazz up meals when it's the end of the week and I'm short on produce.

I like spicy food, and put red chili powder in almost everything I make. I won't include this in a recipe unless it's appropriate, but as a disclaimer I put it in nearly every sauce or stir-fry for a little kick.

Baking is one of my favorite things to do, especially when I'm stressed out. Right now, I'm working on perfecting a white bread recipe. So far, I've taken bits and pieces from three different recipes, and it's almost perfect. I can't wait to share! I also bake a lot of cookies, and I'm pretty bad at following recipes exactly. I always like to add my own twist. When I post baked goods, I'll likely be posting my own version of a classic.
